Installation instructions
Notes:
* Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the system program (BIOS) in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment.
* You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program (BIOS).
* If your system is attached to any kind of port replicator, turn off the system and detach it before proceeding. (Except the ThinkPad UltraBase X4 option. You can attach the option and use the diskette drive option in it.)
* Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is write-protected.
1. Print these instructions or display on another system.
2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the system.
3. Start Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Vista and logon with administrative privileges on the target system.
4. Extract this package onto the hard drive.
5. Click the Start button, then click Run. (For Windows Vista, click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run...)
6. Specify file name with the full path name where you extracted the package. (e.g. C:\Temp\1UUJ22UD.EXE) Then click OK to create the diskette. Turn off the system when the diskette creation is complete.
7. Insert the write protected System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the system.
8. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears.
9. Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
10. Select Update system program and follow the instruction on the screen.
Note: If you are updating the system program through the USB external diskette drive, it will take quite a long time to complete reading the system program file, but it is normal. Continue the update.
Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the system until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the system while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced.
After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off.
Initializing System Program (BIOS)
In some cases, it may be a good idea to try BIOS initialization when you have some troubles. To initialize the BIOS settings:
1. Turn off the system.
2. Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive.
3. Turn on the system.
4. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the blue Access IBM key.
5. Double-click Start setup utility. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enters the password.
6. Press the F9 key to load default configuration.
7. Select Yes.
8. Press the F10 key to save default configuration.
9. Select Yes. The system restarts automatically.
